Novel miR-5088-5p promotes malignancy of breast cancer by inhibiting DBC2

Abstract: Breast cancer is the most common female cancer in the world. Despite the active research on metastatic breast cancer, the treatment of breast cancer patients is still difficult because the mechanism is not well known. Therefore, research on new targets and mechanisms for diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer patients is required. On the other hand, microRNA (miRNA) has the advantage of simultaneously regulating the expression of many target genes, so it has been proposed as an effective biomarker for the tr… Show more

“…Experiments by our group con rmed that miR-5088-5p, a miRNA identi ed in a previous study, promotes malignancy by inhibiting the expression of Deleted in Breast Cancer 2 (DBC2) in breast cancer [32]. The current study focused on the relationship between onco-miR-5088-5p and IR-induced malignancy.…”

“…Radiotherapy is one of the most common treatment options for cancer. A previous study by our group showed that miR-5088-5p promotes tumorigenic properties in breast cancer [32]. Here, we further examined the expression patterns and mechanisms of action of miR-5088-5p in tumor malignancy during radiotherapy.…”

“…Epigenetic mechanisms include modifications on histone proteins, DNA methylation, and regulation of gene expression by non-coding RNAs and microRNAs. All these mechanisms are critical for tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis [5,6], and they have been considered innovative biomarkers or new targets in targeted therapy in various types of cancers [7][8][9][10].…”
