Novel Pseudo-Noise coded chipless RFID system for clutter removal and tag detection

Abstract: In this contribution a novel Frequency Coded (FC) chipless RFID system is introduced to significantly enhance the tag detection. The proposed system exploits the properties of Pseudo Noise (PN) random sequence, as a transmitted signal, to accurately estimate the Channel Impulse Response (CIR). Consequently, the undesired environmental clutter is filtered by a Selective-RAKE receiver. Hence, the tag is accurately identified in a heavily dense multipath environment using neither reference tags for calibration no… Show more

“…The first one is the orientation independent tag represented in [13], wherein the coding element is the circular ring slot resonator with a quality factor of ≈20; the dimensions of unit cell are shown in Figure 1a, and the tag consists of 2 × 2 cells. The tag has been fabricated on RO4003C material with substrate thickness of 1.52 mm.…”

“…As shown in Figure , the used chipless tag relies on slot ring resonators without ground plane as illustrated in the previous studies . This allows a flexibility of identifying the tag in a backscattering mode or transmission through mode (this one is used in our measurement setup).…”

“…The designed testbed is shown in Figure . Moreover, the hop duration is set to be 30 minutes (which is recommended by the supplier), and the number of averaging used is 100 times to remove the environmental clutter, which could be also removed using PN‐sequence schemes for making the detection faster without using these iterations as explained in Fawky et al…”
