Novel Quaternary TlGaSn2Se6 Single Crystal as Promising Material for Laser Operated Infrared Nonlinear Optical Modulators

Abstract: Abstract:The studies of the laser operated third order nonlinear optical features of novel TlGaSn 2 Se 6 crystal were done. The main efforts were devoted to a search of a possibility to apply these crystals as laser operated optoelectronic material. For this reason, the third harmonic generation of the Nd:YAG pulse laser 1064 nm as the fundamental beam with varied energy density of up to 200 J/m 2 was studied. As a source of laser operated light, we have used the cw laser (532 nm), exciting the material above … Show more

“…To impulse the advance on materials for modern technological applications, investigation of new materials has extended towards the study of ternary and quaternary systems. Research in quaternary ceramic compounds, glasses, polycrystals, single crystals, nanomaterials, and thin films opens up a new possibility to find important materials with novel physical properties. Many of these materials have presented good thermal stability and interesting magnetic and electrical properties making them prominent candidates as functional devices.…”

“…Multinary chalcogenide semiconductors are a highly interesting class of materials because of their diverse optical properties. Among these, the quaternary compounds A a M b M′ c Q d (A = alkali metal, thallium; M = group 13 metal; M′ = group 14 metal; Q = chalcogen) can exhibit strong nonlinear optical (NLO) second-harmonic generation (SHG) of noncentrosymmetric compounds like LiGaGe 2 Q 6 , A 2 In 2 M′Q 6 , and TlGaSn 2 Q 6 . The centrosymmetric AGaM′Q 4 (A = K, Rb, Cs, Tl; M′ = Si; Ge, Sn; Q = S, Se) phases have been reported to have high nonlinear optical (NLO) third-harmonic generation (THG) properties scaling inversely with the band gaps following a power-law behavior . KInSn 2 S 6 is capable of fast ion exchange for the capture of lanthanide ions .…”

“…In recent years, 3-5, 8-14 µm mid-far infrared (MF-IR) laser sources have drawn increasing attention due to their potential applications in the fields of industry and the military, such as atmospheric monitoring, remote sensing, and IR countermeasures [1,2]. The nonlinear optical (NLO) frequency conversion is an effective and promising approach to obtain tunable MF-IR coherent light.…”
