Novel strategies for preparation and characterization of functional polymer-metal nanocomposites for electrochemical applications

Abstract: Stabilization of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) in polymeric matrices of different types has proven to be one of the most promising strategies to prevent their aggregation and to retain their properties. Polymer-stabilized MNPs (PSMNPs) and those based on polymermetal nanocomposite materials are starting to find wide application in various fields of science and technology. In this paper, we demonstrate that metal-polymer nanocomposite membranes (MPNCMs) containing MNPs can easily be prepared in an ion-exchange suc… Show more

“…[52,53] Due to its ion exchange properties, SPEEK has been widely used as polymeric matrix for the IMS of MNPs. [5,48,54] Consequently, preparing SPEEK polymeric thin films (PTFs) by spin coating (SC) offers a novel type of polymeric support for IMS. SC is currently a predominant technique used to produce uniform thin films of organic materials with customized thicknesses of the order of micrometres and nanometres [55] , [56] , [57].…”

“…Ag@Co-NPs, what means a Co-core coated by a Ag-shell). This approach leads to a wide range of possibilities for the applications of core-shell MNPs or MONPs [6,7,10,16,[19][20][21][22]. Thus, the following Figure 3 shows the range of types of MNPs and MONPs (either monometallic or core-shell bimetallic structures) synthesized by the mentioned methodology presenting different properties for the applications of interest.…”

“…They observed that thermal stability of styrene oligomer/gold is slightly higher about of 12-15 o C than that of original styrene oligomer. Muraviev et al [5] had also successful synthesized metal-polymer nanocomposite membranes containing metal nanoparticles of either palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), or copper (Cu) using polyeter keton matrix through in-situ reduction technique. They used this nanocomposite as hydrogen peroxide sensor.…”
