Novel wideband slot antenna having notch-band function for 2.4 GHz WLAN and UWB applications

Abstract: In this paper, the design, simulation, and fabrication of a novel printed rectangular slot antenna with a band-notched function suitable for 2.4 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) and ultra-wideband (UWB) applications is presented and investigated. Two pairs of slits are introduced into the ground plane to realize band-notched function, by tuning the position, length, and width of which a suitable rejected frequency band can be obtained. To improve the impedance matching, a rectangular cut is also made in … Show more

“…A 5.2 GHz notched is achieved in UWB frequency range using a slot‐type split ring resonator . Bandwidth enhancement is achieved by the properly cut curved slot in the rectangular patch and by adjusting the pair of slits in the ground plane . UWB characteristics has been achieved by introducing circular disc patches in the antenna .…”

“…Some techniques must be applied to increase the isolation between the antenna elements, such as using a defected ground plane [7], inserting a small ground plane between PIFA and the mobile circuit board [8, 9] and maintaining the distance between antenna elements, as the critical parameter affecting the mutual coupling, at least equal to a half wavelength [8–10]. Thus, other techniques to make PIFA broadband such as inserting slots [11] and a parasitic element [12] can be applied. Otherwise, these techniques as well as the use of capacitive load [13] and shaped strip [14] are used to achieve multiband performance [1517].…”
