Nuclei in the somatic hyphae of Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Abstract: BAKERSPIGEL, A. 1973. Nuclei in the somatic hyphae of Triclrophytorz mentagroplzytes. Can. J. Microbiol.19: 223-229. There are four chronlosonles present in the somatic nuclei of Triclzophyton mer~tagroplzytes. Initially, these chromosomes are ring-shaped but as division proceeds they unfurl becoming rod-like. “…These data also indicate no significant difference between mitotic events during conidiogenesis in G. murorum and in somatic mitoses of other fungi shown by the microscopy of Aist (1969), Bakerspigel ( 1973 ) , Crackower ( 1972) , Day ( 1972), and Robinow and Caten (1969). It appears that, in G. murorum at least, characteristically somatic nuclear events are correlated with the packaging of one of the divisional products into a reproductive propagule.…”
