Nucleotide-directed syntheses of gold nanohybrid systems with structure-dependent optical features: Selective fluorescence sensing of Fe3+ ions

Abstract: This study demonstrates a one-step synthesis for the preparation of both adenosine monophosphate (AMP)-stabilized colloidal gold nanoparticles (AMP-Au NPs) and fluorescent gold nanoclusters (AMP-Au NCs). The dominant role of AMP:AuCl molar ratios in the formation of diverse nanosized Au products was proved. The size, the structure and the unique structure-dependent optical properties of the NPs and NCs were determined based on the results of numerous spectroscopic (UV-vis, fluorescence, infrared, x-ray photoel… Show more

“…Nowadays, the practical one-step “green” preparation protocols of several water-soluble Au NPs/NCs are extremely preferred [21,28,29,30]. During these processes, mainly the template-assisted preparation approaches are used, where dominant amines, like simple amino acids [31], peptides or proteins [32,33], dendrimers [34,35], and nucleotides [36,37,38,39], are applied, which have simultaneously a dual role as reducing and stabilizing ligand. The amines are a crucial class of the possible reducing agents, because they can be found in biological and chemical atmospheres.…”

“…Nucleotide-stabilized blue-emitting Au nanoclusters [1] The one-step syntheses of both adenosine monophosphate (AMP) nucleotide-stabilized plasmonic gold nanoparticles (AMP-Au NPs) and fluorescent gold nanoclusters (AMP-Au NCs) were demonstrated. The dominant role of AMP:AuCl4 diverse Au products was the first time proven.…”

“…Au/nucleotide complexes have also been used for sensing applications. For example, Ungor and co‐workers utilized citrate‐reduced Au/AMP complexes to detect Fe 3+ . Significant quenching of the Au/AMP fluorescence was observed with the addition of Fe 3+ , and the detection limit was 2 μ m Fe 3+ .…”

“…This method was then employed to prepare gold nanoclusters for various applications,a nd further investigationsh ave been made to determine their formation mechanisms by other groups. [53][54][55][56] Apart from adenine, Jiang et al utilized as imilar reduction method to make fluorescent Au/cytidine CPs. [57,58] Different emission intensities were found depending on the pH and reactiont ime of the synthesis.…”
