Numerical analysis and simulations of the magnetic field and hydrophobicity effect on the journal bearing dynamics

Abstract: The article contains mathematical models of Reynolds equation with the effects of hydrophobicity of surface and magnetic field. The first section provides a new mathematical model of the solution of the generalized Reynolds equation and its application for a hydrophilic surface. It also derives a new boundary condition for the contact of a flowing liquid with a hydrophobic surface. This wettability condition is defined in dependence on the adhesion coefficient k. The second part presents mathematical models of… Show more

“…The following article is focused on the research of Newtonian fluids, where the basic flow characteristics are verified on the basis of computational modeling and experiment. Due to the fact that flow instabilities penetrate at the interface of immiscible liquids, we decided to study the behavior of immiscible liquids in the area where another type of instability manifests itself, ie Taylor's vortex, because this issue is described in sufficient detail in [1,2,3,4,5].…”

“…The mechanical energy dissipation is greatly reduced in a journal bearing with hydrophobic surface due to the amplification of magnetic field. 40,41 Amanov et al. 42 investigated the effects of bulges adjacent to the dimples on the improvement in wear and friction at various loads and speeds.…”

“…Advancements in hydrophobic materials and layered surfaces allow surface-liquid interaction through slip conditions. Fialova´et al 40 presented mathematical models considering magnetic field and hydrophobia effects in Reynolds equation. The hydrophobic surface leads to higher Lorentz force due to significant effect on the velocity profile.…”
