Numerical Investigation Energy Conversion Performance of Tin-Based Perovskite Solar Cells Using Cell Capacitance Simulator

Abstract: The power conversion efficiency of lead halide perovskite solar cells has been elevated to 25.2%. However, the toxicity of lead and the complex fabrication process of those cells considerably hinder the commercial application of such solar cells. Therefore, lead-free solar cells with comparable power conversion efficiency with a much lower environmental impact have recently attracted enormous attention in both academia and industry. This paper presents a theoretical study to assess the energy conversion capaci… Show more

“…Both TiO 2 and PCBM have the smallest absolute CBO values, which are smaller than those of the other two materials. TiO 2 used as ETM has a slightly higher PCE than PCBM because the dielectric constant of TiO 2 (ε r = 9) is higher than that of PCBM(ε r = 3.9), which is consistent with the previous literature [ 43 ]. Therefore, we select TiO 2 as the most appropriate ETM.…”

“…The corresponding device performance is presented in Figure 12 . From Figure 12 , it can be seen that Voc, Jsc, and FF decrease with increasing bulk defect density due to the fact that the generated electrons and holes are more easily captured by bulk defects [ 43 ]. The PCE falls from 21.3% to 4.74% when the bulk defect density increases from 10 11 cm −3 to 10 17 cm −3 .…”

“…With inorganic copper oxide (CuO) as HTM, methyl ammonium lead iodide (MAPbI 3 ) based PSCs exhibit high open circuit voltage (V OC ) and short circuit current density (J SC ) 13 . A modelling study on tin‐based PSCs with IGZO as ETM shows a PCE of 23.86% when Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S is used as HTM 14 . Another study shows an experimental PCE of 12.16% with CuO as HTM for PSCs with MAPbI 3 as the photon harvesting layer and PCBM as ETM 13 .…”

“…The toxic property of lead (Pb) creates a hurdle in fabricating the cells. Generally, a perovskite solar cell architecture consists of an electron transport layer (ETL) and a hole transport layer (HTL) which in turn maximizes power conversion efficiency (PCE) [1]. The volatility of the organic cation is considered to be a significant contributor to instability, which should be improved using inorganic cations [2].…”
