In this work, two novel models have been proposed based on semi-empirical and factional calculus incorporating non-integer time derivatives in the Fick's first law of anomalous diffusion. The experimental data has been collected from literature of 15 kinetics investigated in a convective dryer under the effect of temperatures ranging from 40 to 80 °C at 10 °C interval, and thickness of the slices of 2 to 6 mm at 2 mm interval. The collected experimental dataset was of apple slices (Golab variety). Results from this study were compared with a set of 64 thin-layer drying models previously published in the literature. The fitting capability of the models was compared using the mean of root mean square error MRMSE (%) of all kinetics and the global determination coefficient R 2 . All models' constants and coefficients were optimised by dragonfly algorithm programmed in MATLAB software. Results showed that the fractional model is highly capable of describing the drying curve of the apple slices with a determination coefficient (R 2 ) of 0.99981, and average root mean square error (MRMSE) of 0.43 % in comparison to the best empirical models with R 2 of 0.99968 and MRMSE of 0.61 %.

The aim of this work is to numerically investigate the effect of mounting winglet vortex generators on different positions in rectangular-duct-type air heaters. The two investigated positions were the absorber plate and the insulation plate, opposite to the absorber plate. Four shapes of winglet vortex generator, i.e. perforated rectangular winglet vortex generators (P-RWVG), rectangular winglet vortex generators (RWVG), perforated trapezoidal winglet vortex generators (P-TWVG) and trapezoidal winglet vortex generators (TWVG), were used. Results showed that heat-transfer capability would be better if the winglet vortex generators were mounted on the opposite insulation plate in the cases of P-RWVG, RWVG and P-TWVG.

"Solar air heater (SAH) has vast applications in agriculture, crop drying and other field. In solar air heater, air temperature increases at the exit section. Research has worked extensively in SAH field, experimentally and numerically to observe the performance of SAH. In the present work, a 3D model of SAH is created in Design Modeler of ANSYS and simulation is run in ANSYS Fluent for the Reynolds number range between 2000-18000. Main objective of the study is to calculate the Nusselt number (dimensionless number) and friction factor influenced by pressure drop inside the duct. Numerical results are validated with the experimental results and compared with the Modified Dittus-Boelter equation and Modified Blasius equation. Mean percentage absolute error in simulation results are within range of 10%.
