“…According to what has been stated, nursing appointment is considered an opportunity for nurses to act effectively on empowerment for self-care and for the healthcare improvement of DM patients, since it is significantly associated with glycemic control (8,12,13) . However, this activity is not implemented routinely in health services, as only actions related to history and evolution of nursing predominate (14) . A study conducted with 150 individuals with DM2, linked to a private health plan in a municipality in the North of Paraná State, showed that individual intervention consisting of two halfyearly nursing appointments intercalated by a telephone contact, resulted in significant positive effects on knowledge and quality of life and no significant positive effect on self-care (13) .…”
