For example, sharp increases in obesity have occurred in Mexico, even among the poorest segments of the population (Monteverde, Noronha, Palloni, & Novak, 2010), and more than a fifth of the adult population is overweight in China, with levels rising particularly among the poor (Popkin, 2008).
