Observation ofWZProduction

Abstract: We report the first observation of the associated production of a W boson and a Z boson. This result is based on 1.1 fb;-1 of integrated luminosity from pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 16 WZ candidates passing our event selection with an expected background of 2.7+/-0.4 events. A fit to the missing transverse energy distribution indicates an excess of events compared to the background expectation corresponding to a significance equivalen… Show more

“…In EPA, photons emitted from incoming leptons which have very low virtuality are scattered at very small angles from the beam pipe and because the emitted quasi-real photons have a low Q 2 virtuality, these are almost real. These processes have been observed experimentally at the LEP, Tevatron and LHC [10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. In particular, the most stringent experimental limit on the anomalous τ MM and τ EDM is obtained through the process e + e − → e + γ * γ * e − → e + ττ e − by using multiperipheral collision at the LEP [17].…”

“…Because the emitted quasi-real photons have a low Q 2 virtuality, they are almost real. These processes have been observed experimentally at the LEP, the Tevatron and the LHC [47][48][49][50][51][52][53]. In WWA or EPA, the quasi-real photons emitted from both lepton and proton beams collide with each other and produce the subprocess γ * γ * → tt.…”

“…As for the spin-parity quantum numbers of the X(3872), the angular distributions and correlations of the π + π − J/ψ final state have been studied by CDF [77]. They concluded that the pion pairs originate from ρ 0 mesons and that the favored quantum numbers of the X(3872) are J P C = 1 ++ and 2 −+ .…”
