In the past decade many charmonium-like states were observed experimentally. Especially those charged charmoniumlike Z c states and bottomonium-like Z b states can not be accommodated within the naive quark model. These charged Z c states are good candidates of either the hidden-charm tetraquark states or molecules composed of a pair of charmed mesons. Recently, the LHCb Collaboration discovered two hidden-charm pentaquark states, which are also beyond the quark model. In this work, we review the current experimental progress and investigate various theoretical interpretations of these candidates of the multiquark states. We list the puzzles and theoretical challenges of these models when confronted with the experimental data. We also discuss possible future measurements which may distinguish the theoretical schemes on the underlying structures of the hidden-charm multiquark states.

A novel method of studying e þ e À annihilation into hadrons using initial state radiation at e þ e À colliders is described. After a brief history of the method, its theoretical foundations are considered. Numerous experiments in which exclusive cross sections of e þ e À annihilation into hadrons below the center-of-mass energy of 5 GeV have been measured are presented. Some applications of the experimental results to fundamental tests of the standard model are listed.

The Belle Collaboration has reported measurements of the exclusive cross section for the processes e þ e À ! D 0 D À þ and e þ e À ! D 0 D ÃÀ þ over the center-of-mass energy range 4.0 GeV to 5.0 GeV. The resonant structure of the cross section suggests that the reactions go through the c ð4415Þ resonance. We study these reactions using a constituent quark model which successfully describes the J PC ¼ 1 ÀÀ c " c sector and show that the c ð4415Þ resonance alone as intermediate state is not able to reproduce the data. The inclusion of the Xð4360Þ resonance improves the agreement. Some comments about the Xð4660Þ are included.
