“…Pain and fever were the most common symptomsinour study, comparable with the study by Gerzof, et al (n=12). The abscess characteristics like site of abscess, location of abscess, no of abscesses was comparable with the same study and other standard studies [15][16][17][18][19][20] . Etiology of the abscess was not comparable with western studies, because incidence of amoebic abscess in tropical countries like ours is more [21][22][23] .…”

“…However, the common site for amoebic liver abscess is the right lobe with extension upwards to the right dome of the diaphragm, and adhesions in this situation can usually be readily visualized. Newer techniques such as ultrasonic diagnosis (Wang et al, 1964) and isotope hepatoscanning (Marberg and Czerniak, 1964) are now being employed and will doubtless prove of value, but the simplicity and accuracy of pneumoperitoneum in selected cases commend themselves. More than 500 patients with amoebic liver abscess are seen annually at this hospital.…”

“…Chest X-ray normal. Marberg & Czerniak (1964) demonstrated amoebic liver abscesses with the use of isotope hepato-scanning, using gold, 198Au, and said that there was little danger in this procedure.…”
