Obsrvations on the Fine structure of the Testicular Interstitial Cells in the Camel (Camelus Dromedarious)

Abstract: Testicular interstitial cells of the camel are polygonal in shape with abundant smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) occurring as a network of tubules. Elements of a welldeveloped Golgi complex are seen in many parts of the cytoplasm. There is a moderate number of mitochondria with predominantly lamellar cristae and dense intramitochondrial granules. Lipid droplets vary in size and number from cell to cell. Lysosomal bodies are commonly encountered in the cytoplasm. Other cytoplasmic constituents include microfi… Show more

“…They showed oval or elongated nuclei with abundant cytoplasmic organelles including mitochondria and dilated profiles of RER. Filaments and pinocytotic vesicles were identified and they were similar to those reported in the camel testis (Tingari et al, 1979).…”

“…It consisted of one continuous layer of myoid cells, the outer surface of which was covered by scattered fibroblasts; many collagenous fibres intermingled with the cellular components. Except for an apparent thickness in the first layer, the structure is generally similar to that of the man, cat and camel (Burgos et al, 1970; Moniem et al, 1980; Ross & Long, 1966; Tingari et al, 1979).…”

“…Males only approach females during the breeding (rutting season), which starts from late Oct to late April each year. Moreover, male camels displays an aggressive such as fighting between females for mating, and thus should be approached cautiously [22]. Animals usually shared common sources of food and water.…”

“…We selected 9/12 positive animals heavily infested with ticks and representing (15%) of the total herd for the collection of ticks. The selection of these target animals is based on the lowest Ct values (17)(18)(19)(20)(21)(22)(23)(24)(25) among the positive animals. To confirm the identity of the positive MERS-CoV animals, we sequenced some of the amplicons targeting the E gene.…”
