“…Malignant melanomas can be found in any part of the heart, most frequently in the right atrium, but they can also cause obstructive features of the right ventricular outflow tract,5 13 as in our case. A sequela to this particular location is pulmonary embolisation of both tumour and thrombotic fragments.…”

“…Metastatic spread to the heart is a frequent result in patients with malignant melanoma, accounting for >50% of cases at autopsy 1. Infiltration of the conduction system and coronary circulation by melanoma has been reported,2 3 but by far the most common presentation is involvement of the right side of the heart, often the right atrium and not uncommonly right ventricular outflow tract obstruction 1 4 5. Whether primary or metastatic, the prognosis for patients with cardiac melanoma is extremely poor, although there are rare reports describing at least intermediate term survival after surgery 6 7.…”

“…A tumor's anatomic location and extent of invasion determine the feasibility of surgical intervention, which should optimally be performed during the early stages of the disease 6). A complete resection of an intracardiac melanoma prevents potential morbidities that are associated with progressive intracardiac growth, such as superior vena cava syndrome, right ventricular outflow and inflow obstruction, dysrhythmia, cardiac tamponade, and heart failure 6).…”

“…A complete resection of an intracardiac melanoma prevents potential morbidities that are associated with progressive intracardiac growth, such as superior vena cava syndrome, right ventricular outflow and inflow obstruction, dysrhythmia, cardiac tamponade, and heart failure 6). Even when total resection is not possible, conservative surgery can relieve symptoms and prevent imminent cardiac failure.…”

“…La mayoría de los casos de tumores cardiacos se descubren de modo fortuito en necropsias en los que la muerte ha tenido otro origen (incluso violenta) y, por lo tanto, no son atribuibles a esta patología [9][10][11] .…”
