“…Ethnicity is an important variable to study because "some studies have documented cultural differences in stress" (Ghadially & Kumar, 1987, p. 2). Like many other studies, (Biggs et al, 1995;Ghadially & Kumar, 1987;Marini et al, 1995;Osipow et al, 1985;Ryan, 1996), the results of this one are not able to be generalized due to a small sample size. Third, since stress was shown to have such a large influence on turnover intentions, future research might want to include more variables that measure stress.…”

“…Coping mechanisms were found to be utilized less by younger workers than by older workers, with the exception of Social Support which appears to remain relatively stable throughout the life-span (Osipow, Doty, & Spokane, 1985). Older workers also expressed decreased amounts of environmental stress but increased amounts of Role Overload and Responsibility than younger workers (Osipow et al, 1985).…”

“…Congruence leads to feelings of satisfaction and well-being, incongruence has the opposite effect. Following the line of argument that P-E fit should also be related to measures of occupational stress (Tziner & Dawis, 1988), Fogarty and Sutherland (1991), in an unreported exploratory study, examined the relation between scores on Osipow and Spokane's (1987) Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI) and both the Iachan M congruence index (Iachan, 1984;1990) and the Zener-Schnuelle congruence index (Zener & Schnuelle, 1976) and obtained correlations of -0.43 and -0.53 between congruence and total stress scores and -0.36 and -0.44 between congruence and total strain scores, respectively. This outcome was encouraging but two considerations led to the present attempt to replicate these findings.…”
