Occurrence and prognostic effect of cervical spine injuries and cervical artery injuries with concomitant severe head injury

Abstract: Background Blunt cerebrovascular injuries (BCVIs) and cervical spinal injuries (CSIs) are not uncommon injuries in patients with severe head injury and may affect patient recovery. We aimed to assess the independent relationship between BCVI, CSI, and outcome in patients with severe head injury. Methods We identified patients with severe head injury from the Helsinki Trauma Registry treated during 2015-2017 in a large level 1 trauma hospital. We assessed the association between BCVI and SCI using multivariable… Show more

“…The prevalence of spinal injuries was 12% among patients with head injuries. The results of the prevalence of spinal injuries in the current study are in line with that of a Hong Kong study [ 11 ] and a retrospective study [ 18 ]. However, the results of the prevalence of spinal injuries were not in line with that of a retrospective study [ 3 ] and an ecological study [ 7 ].…”

“…Ulinastatin is an endogenous protective substance reducing the release of elastase, trypsin, and some lipid hydrolases to inhibit the expression of inflammatory factors [ 16 , 17 ]. Meanwhile, it can also prevent the generation of oxygen free radicals, improve the microcirculation in patients, and reduce the damage of tissues and organs under inflammatory and ischemic conditions so as to increase the tolerance of the liver to hypoxia [ 18 20 ].…”

“…The operation time, coagulation function time, hospitalization time, body temperature recovery time, PT, APTT, blood loss, total fluid input and fatality rate of the three groups of subjects were statistically significant. This shows that in the early treatment work, the improvement of the sufferer's vital signs creates a prerequisite for DCR surgery [19][20][21] . During the treatment process, it is necessary to keep the sufferer warm and detect blood volume, and take targeted measures according to the actual situation.…”
