Occurrence of pine shoot moths in young Pinus thunbergii plantations on eroded hillsides

Abstract: The number of terminal shoots killed by shoot boring moths was counted for 20 years from 1955 to 1975 in young Pinus thunbergii plantations in the Tokyo University Forest in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The dominant insect species was Evetria cristata. These moths began to attack pine shoots immediately after the establishment of a new pine plantation, and the occurrence of dead shoots continued for about 10 years.
