Off‐board electric vehicle battery charger using PV array

Abstract: During the recent decade, the automobile industry is booming with the evolution of electric vehicle (EV). Battery charging system plays a major role in the development of EVs. Charging of EV battery from the grid increases its load demand. This leads to propose a photovoltaic (PV) array-based off-board EV battery charging system in this study. Irrespective of solar irradiations, the EV battery is to be charged constantly which is achieved by employing a backup battery bank in addition to the PV array. Using th… Show more

“…In electric vehicle (EV), the battery has been deliberated as the most important component which has grown significantly in recent years as a result of power electronic converters [1], [2]. These difficulties present in EVs was lessened by combining high energy density sources like battery, ultra-capacitor (UC), superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) and flywheels storage devices [3]. The most attractive design for EVs is the battery-UC hybrid energy storage systems (battery-UC HESSs) [4].…”

“…The aforementioned converters can be made in either unidirectional topology (G2V) or bidirectional topology (G2V and V2G) (Chaurasiya and Singh, 2019). According to the study of Nachinarkiniyan and Subramanian (2020), solar PV enabled a fast-charging station, steadily charging the battery irrespective of the radiation.…”
