Omics and Multi-Omics Analysis for the Early Identification and Improved Outcome of Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis

Abstract: The definitive diagnosis and early treatment of many immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) is hindered by variable and overlapping clinical manifestations. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA), which develops in ~30% of people with psoriasis, is a key example. This mixed-pattern IMID is apparent in entheseal and synovial musculoskeletal structures, but a definitive diagnosis often can only be made by clinical experts or when an extensive progressive disease state is apparent. As with other IMIDs, the detection of… Show more

“…In previous studies, the following two strategies were often used to solve this problem: firstly, seeking markers, whose abundance rather than presence or absence correlates with a disease; secondly, profiles based on combinations of several markers that are more informative than single molecules. 139 This strategy was first applied to ovarian cancer. 140 In fact, this method has also made progress in HF.…”

“…One of the most popular is the multi-omics approach, including the genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics analysis at the single-subject (N-of-1) studies, where they are used to analyze the biomaterial of a single person. Several recent studies have illustrated the utility of the multi-omics longitudinal data to look for signs of reversible early disease or disease risk factors in single individuals [ 69 , 70 , 71 , 72 ].…”
