On the Approximation of the UWB Dipole Elliptical Arms With Stepped-Edge Polygon

Abstract: A simple method of approximation of the elliptical patch with stepped-edge polygon is proposed as an introduction to wider studies over the planar ultrawideband (UWB) antennas. The general idea is to replace the elliptical patch with an equivalent polygonal patch, with minimum loss in the performance. The principles of the proposed method are presented in this letter, as well as the results of performed numerical studies and its experimental verification. A satisfying level of agreement of the parameters of th… Show more

“…For further studies of the planar UWB antenna, a simple technique of approximation for elliptical patches with a polygon step edge was presented in [93]. For each iteration, it was found out that the polygon was required to have the same dimensions to the elliptical patch.…”

“…The wideband dipole antenna has been developed in two forms: three‐dimensional (3D) and planar‐type (2D). While the 3D wideband dipole antennas such as biconical are usually bulky and difficult to fabricate, the planar ones have some advantages such as omnidirectional pattern, low cost, light weight, conformity, ease of fabrication, and integrability with the surface mounted devices in the circuit …”

“…In [12], using the same binomial curve as in [11], a CPW-fed wideband printed binomial curved slot antenna with maximum bandwidth of 99.7% (2.2-6.6 GHz) for rectangular (N = ∞) shape is proposed. In [13], an elliptical patch is replaced with equivalent stepped edge polygon. Gain of the proposed antenna is not discussed in [13].…”
