On the comparison of oxygen and sulfur transfer reactivities in phosphine and phosphorene: the case of R3Sb(X) carriers (X = O or S)

Abstract: Functionalization is one of the most powerful tool in material science for the development of new and innovative materials with tailored properties purposefully designed to enhance the overall stability of...

“…More recently, some of us reported a detailed computational study addressing both the steric and electronic factors ruling the covalent functionalization of 2D BP with different transition metal fragments and Lewis acids 39 as well as the reactivty with suitable chalcogen transfer reagents. 40 Currently, major advances in solid state characterization techniques (X-ray absorption spectroscopy, XAS Herein, we investigated the functionalization of 2D BP obtained through its reaction with the organometallic precursor [Pd(η 3 -C 3 H 5 )Cl] 2 (1). The latter is a well-known air-stable dimeric organopalladium complex that easily undergoes opening of the chloride bridge even in the presence of weak σ-donor ligands, while strong donor abilities are mandatory for the stabilization of the allylic moieties.…”

“…Such an interaction in any case causes a structural deformation since the P5-P6 bond results elongated up to 2.41 vs. 2.31 Å, similarly to the recent chalcogen atom transfer from a molecule of stibine chalcogenide to phosphorene. 30 The absorption of the Au 2 cluster on the phosphorene causes a less pronounced deformation being the ditch larger by only 0.18 Å. Concerning the charge distribution, also in this case a charge transfer is observed, especially from the Au1 center, which seems to be partially oxidized being its population 0.36 e − less than the atomic Au(0), while the Au2 remains very close to the Au(0) electronic configuration.…”
