On the Efficiency of Lighting by LEDs in Visual Work

Abstract: It is experimentally found that LEDs illumination does not cause a negative influence on visual organs and human body as a whole. It is shown that changes of visual organ functional indices for visual operations are within the correspondent boundaries of physiological fluctuations and have a reversible nature. Integral indices of LEDs illumination efficiency from visual working capacity and visual fatigue degree are estimated. A practical importance of the obtained results is shown.

“…Thus, DIALux as a lighting design tool was considered reliable for luminous flux (lumen) delivery calculations and the model created with DIALux 4.13 was considered valid. The proposed upgradation of the fluorescent lamp-lit illumination system model considered retrofitting with light emitting diodes (LEDs) owing to their energy efficiency and overall suitability for current indoor lighting practices (Protzman and Houser, 2006;Tsuei et al, 2008;Byun et al, 2013;Amelkina et al, 2018).…”

“…LED luminaires were chosen for this work as LED technology is widely used for both indoor (Sinnadurai et al , 2012; Wang et al , 2017) and outdoor lighting purposes, including vehicular lighting, area lighting, road lighting simulation and analysis (Khan et al , 2015; Bhattacharya et al , 2021; Roy et al , 2022). LED luminaires are more energy-efficient compared to fluorescent light generation technology, highly conducive to different visual tasks, may not adversely affect body rhythm and health (van Bommel, 2011) and are generally considered to be highly suited for indoor lighting applications (Tsuei et al , 2008; Bhattcharjee and Mazumdar, 2016; Amelkina et al , 2018).…”
