“…Mapping techniques include the infonnation flow based process (Kalflohou and Schorlemmer, 2003), which uses a series of translation tables to analyse mapping relationships; the use of combinator logics to resolve issues in mapping between ontologies (Correa da Silva et. al.…”

“…Our own interest in the Barwise-Seligman theory of information flow arose from the observation by Corrêa da Silva and his colleagues [6] that, although ontologies were proposed as a silver bullet for knowledge sharing, for some knowledge-sharing scenarios the integration of ontologies by aligning, merging, or unifying concepts and relations as specified by their respective theories alone turned out to be insufficient. A closer analysis of these scenarios through the lenses of Barwise and Seligman's approach to information flow revealed that successful and reliable knowledge sharing between two systems went closely together with an agreed understanding of an existing duality between the merging of local ontologies into a global one, and the identification of particular situations in which the sharing of knowledge was going to take place.…”

“…In (Correa et al, 2002) four main problems have been detected: 1) reusing ontologies to engineer new ontologies is not straightforward; 2) ontologies do not provide adequate information when sharing inferences; 3) when reasoning under uncertainty, additional semantic links regarding inference are required, and 4) in a large scale system, sharing group knowledge should be appropriately studied.…”
