On the morphology and potential application of polydimethylsiloxane-silica-titania composites

Abstract: Abstract. Polydimethylsiloxane-!,"-diol was used as matrix for the preparation of polysiloxane-SiO 2 -TiO 2 composites through in situ incorporation of silica and titania using a solvent-free sol-gel procedure. For this purpose, oxide precursors tetraethyl-orthosilicate and tetrabutyl-orthotitanate, and a proper condensation catalyst, viz. dibuthyltin dilaurate, were added in pre-established amounts to the polymer. The hydrolysis and condensation reactions take place under mild conditions, with the formation o… Show more

“…Compared with the isometric nanoparticles, a large surface-to-volume ratio of the 1D nanoparticle generally improves the nanocomposites properties. Contrary to the anatase polymer nanocomposites, only a few papers concerning polymers filled with titanate nanotubes have been found in the literature [ 130 , 131 , 132 ].…”

“…[36][37][38] Finally TEOS was introduced to compensate the decient reaction sites occupied by the phenyl groups of DEPS. 39 The composition of the monomer mixture was optimized to 15 mol%, 20 mol%, 35 mol%, 15 mol% and 15 mol% for GPTS, MPTS, TMMS, DEPS and TEOS respectively. The SiO 2 nanoparticle content was controlled to 20 wt% of the whole monomer mixture.…”

“…Thermal analysis of these particles also revealed that oil degradation of PDMS occur between 300 and 600 C and the amount of PDMS oil present in the samples was estimated in 9.7, 8.4, 7.5 and 5.7% for samples S2, S3, S4 and S5, respectively. Weight gain of the sample S4 is due to condensation of silanol groups present in the PDMS oil [35].…”
