On the Occurrence of Exudate Flavonoids in the Borage Family (Boraginaceae)

Abstract: Externally accumulated flavonoid aglycones have been found for the first time in Nonea species. They exhibit only flavones, one of thembeing the rare tricetin-4ʹ-methyl ether. Within the subfamily Boraginoideae, exudate flavonoids appear to be a rare character.

“…It is possible that flavonoid compounds other than anthocyanins (e.g., flavonols, flavanone) in white wheat contributed to these results. Apigenin, luteolin, luteolin derivative and tricin have been detected in different wheat varieties (Wollenweber et al 2002;Adom et al 2005;Herná ndez et al 2011). Further flavonoid compounds analysis of the white wheat grain is required.…”

“…The 3´,4´-dimethyl ether apometzgerin was first found as a C-glycoside in the liverwort Apometzgeria pubescens [17]. It has since been isolated from the grass Poa hueaca (Poaceae) [18], from aerial parts of Alibertia myrciifolia (Rubiaceae) [19], from leaf exudate of Nonea pulla (Boraginaceae) [14], from trapping glue of Roridula gorgonias (Roridaceae) [20], and from the exudate of aerial parts of Asarina procumbens (Scrophulariaceae) [15].…”
