On the Performance of Opportunistic NOMA in Downlink CoMP Networks

Abstract: In this letter, an opportunistic NOMA (ONOMA) scheme is proposed in Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) system. Compared with the conventional joint-transmission (JT) NOMA in CoMP, the main purpose of the ONOMA scheme is to advance the capability of the CoMP system and the effectiveness of the successive-interference-cancellation (SIC) decoding process. The relationship between the topology of the ONOMA cells and the sum-rate of CoMP network is analysed. Meanwhile, the outage probability of ONOMA system is derived … Show more

“…For JPO, the optimal power allocation is obtained by searching ten thousand points over the feasible power range in each CoMP-BS, i.e., search step size is p t /10000. For DPO, we use (11) and (14) to obtain the achievable data rate for non-CoMP users and CoMP users, respectively. In each NOMA cluster, we use one/multiple CoMP-UE but the number of non-CoMP-UEs is restricted to one, and thus no offset ICI is used under the DPO approach.…”

“…In this work, 2-user NOMA is used in both the cells where the non-CoMP user is the cell-center user. Another work on downlink CoMP-NOMA can be found in [9], where an opportunistic CoMP-NOMA system is used for a group of cell-edge users which receive strong signals from all the coordinating cells. In this work, a joint multi-cell power allocation strategy is used based on the CoMP users' channel gains.…”

“…Furthermore, NOMA can be jointly designed with cooperative multiple point (CoMP) [9,109,110] or multipleantenna technology [41,[111][112][113]. Also, there have been some initial studies about employing NOMA in wireless power transfer network to increase the access opportunities [114][115][116].…”
