One-pot synthesis of highly cross-linked fluorescent polyphosphazene nanoparticles for cell imaging

Abstract: 5Highly cross-linked and monodisperse polyphosphazene nanoparticles (NPs) exhibiting strong fluorescence were prepared by a remarkably simple one-pot polycondensation of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP) and 4,5-dibromofluorescein (DBF). The morphology and size of the resulting poly(cyclotriphosphazene-co-dibromofluorescein) (PCTPDBF) NPs can be facilely tuned by varying the solvent and reactant concentration. The fluorescent DBF units were isolated and "fastened" in 10 the cross-linked structures, which ca… Show more

“…Highly crosslinked polyphosphazene nano/micro materials, a kind of novel versatile hybrid material referring to polymers synthesized via polycondensation between hexachlorotriphosphazene (HCCP) and polyamino (or polyhydroxyl) monomers, have been designed for use in cell imaging, drug delivery, sensing, and ecological environment . The polyphosphazenes have special characteristics including highly crosslinked structure, water and organic media dispersibility, and biocompatibility.…”

“…FI techniques have the advantage of having high spatial and time resolution and have gained much attention in the field of biomedicine. Inspired by the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) mechanism proposed by Tang et al, 128 Long et al 129 introduced polyphosphazene (PZS) to ''isolate'' and ''fasten'' the fluorescent molecules for a stable and enhanced FI performance. The fluorescent molecules were bound to the phosphorus-containing dendrimer.…”

“…For vaccine delivery, the most common prototypes are based on PPZs with carboxylic acids side chains, such as poly[di(carboxylatophenoxy)‐phosphazene] (PCPP). The versatility of PPZ chemistry is also important from scale‐up and manufacturer's perspectives . For many industrial applications, it is desirable to have “platform” materials that can be manufactured in bulk and adapted or modified for specific purposes.…”
