Online optimization of a multi-conversion-level DC home microgrid for system efficiency enhancement

Abstract: A B S T R A C TIn this paper, an on-line management system for the optimal efficiency operation of a multi-bus DC home distribution system is proposed. The operation of the system is discussed with reference to a distribution system with two conversion stages and three voltage levels. In each of the conversion stages, three paralleled DC/DC converters are implemented. A Genetic Algorithm performs the on-line optimization of the DC network's global efficiency, generating the optimal current sharing ratios of th… Show more

“…Basic mechanisms for prioritization and power allocation are also needed; these can build on capabilities already present in USB and Ethernet. For systems with multiple parallel stepdown converters, an efficiency optimization algorithm that regulates current between the converters could be used to optimize the system efficiency [50]. See Figure 4 for a conceptual schematic of this proposed configuration.…”

For open office spaces, bringing power down from the ceiling or up from the underfloor to a collection of adjacent workstations can be convenient.…”

“…The voltage control issue is discussed in [3], where the authors propose an energy management strategy of active distribution systems with a grid-connected DC microgrid, as well as for an isolated DC microgrid with hybrid energy resources. In [4], a power architecture for residential buildings consisting in a multilevel DC microgrid is presented, together with a method for maximizing the energy efficiency of parallel DC/DC converters. In [5], a microgrid based on solar PV-battery energy storage with a multifunctional voltage source converter is presented.…”
