The initiation of thermosolutal convective instability is investigated in a horizontal porous layer saturated by a shear-thinning fluid following Ellis’ rheology. The porous layer is heated as well as salted from below and a basic horizontal throughflow prompted by the prescribed pressure gradient is considered. The linear stability analysis is performed using normal mode analysis and the threshold conditions for the onset of convection are obtained in a closed form. The imposed horizontal pressure gradient and the solute concentration gradient reinforce together in resulting the onset of convection through oscillatory motions. The transverse rolls are the most unstable which are found to be both travelling and non-travelling in the reference frame comoving with the basic throughflow. The effect of increasing the Ellis power-law index and the solute Darcy-Rayleigh number is to stabilise, while an increase in the Darcy-Ellis number is to destabilise the base flow. The pressure and temperature/solute concentration lines are presented at the critical state. The results delineated under the limiting cases are shown to be in agreement with those published previously.

The flow through porous medium accounts for numerous applications in various fields namely, agriculture, geothermal sciences, and engineering. Furthermore, dissolution‐driven convection in porous media has grabbed great attention in recent years due to its practical applications in long‐term geological storage of carbon dioxide, in the production of mineral deposits, and other industrial applications. In this regard, the current numerical analysis focuses on addressing the thermal instability of dissolution‐driven convective phenomena of a power‐law fluid through a porous horizontal domain with a first‐order chemical reaction. For linear stability analysis, the method of normal modes has been employed to solve governing dimensionless equations which give rise to an eigenvalue problem. The bvp4c routine in MATLAB R2020a has been used to solve the raised problem for the onset of convection. The impact of Damköhler number, Péclet number, and power‐law index on the onset of convection has been investigated. The role of these critical parameters is found to be highly significant in stabilizing the system. An increase in the power‐law index causes stabilization or destabilization in the system, depending on the Péclet number. An enhancement in the magnitude of Damköhler number makes the system stable for all values of the Péclet number. Also, Damköhler and critical Rayleigh number are inter‐related, that is, an increment in Damköhler number results in the enhancement of critical Rayleigh numbers, which in turn leads to stabilization of the system. The critical wave number is observed to have a remarkable influence on Damköhler number as well as power‐law index.

There are so many works present in the literature with Hele-Shaw cell, Jeffrey nanofluid, magnetic field, and rotation individually, but here we carried out the combined study of these and it is important because there are so many applications of these in engineering, it may be used in energy absorption in the solar panel, because of Hele-Shaw cell is approximately similar to the solar panel. The main goal of the article is to analyse the instability of Jeffrey nanofluid filled in Hele-Shaw cell in the presence of the magnetic field and rotation. During the investigation, we obtained that the rotation parameter directly affects the behaviour of the Hele-Shaw number and magnetic Chandrasekhar number. Here we also analyze the behaviour of two different types of nanofluids (CuO + Blood and Cu + Blood) on the onset of convection and found that the onset of convection gets delayed in (Cu + Blood). Heat/mass transfer in the system has been analyzed by Mathematica NDSolve and Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method (RKF-45) and found that the rate of heat/mass transfer is exactly the same by both methods. The Taylor number directly affects the behaviour of heat transfer and also found that the onset of convection gets advanced in Jeffrey fluid.
