Open and reproducible practices in developmental psychology research: The workflow of the WomCogDev lab as an example

Abstract: The current paper presents an overview of the workflow of the Working Memory, Cognition and Development (WomCogDev) lab at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, as an example of how Open Science principles can be applied in a developmental psychology lab. We describe the importance and challenges of applying Open Science practices in developmental research and detail each step of our workflow from research design to dissemination. We provide examples and give emphasis to steps that typically receive little at… Show more

“…Turoman et al. (2022) provide a case study of how open and reproducible science practices are implemented in a project workflow from project design to dissemination, describing common challenges as well as the pros and cons of their approach. Consistent with our own approach in conducting this study, Kosie and Lew‐Williams (2022) outlines various considerations for incorporating open science practices in descriptive developmental research, which can differ significantly from experiments and correlational analyses.…”

“…Gilmore (2022) has proposed several solutions to help developmental psychologists share data and materials, including the storage and sharing of video data. Turoman and colleagues provide a case study of how open and reproducible science practices are implemented in a project workflow, describing common challenges as well as the pros and cons of their approach (Turoman et al, 2022). Opportunities and challenges in implementing open science practices in longitudinal developmental research is also highlighted in a commentary by Kirtley (2022).…”

“…Kalandadze and Hart (2022) is a great place to start, with an annotated reading list on open developmental science. Turoman et al (2022) present a workflow for applying open science principles in a developmental psychology lab, using their own lab as an example. Regarding data analysis, Visser et al (2023) present a tutorial for using Bayesian sequential testing designs and Woods et al (2023) present best practices for addressing missing data through multiple imputations.…”
