Resumo: Apesar do número crescente de pesquisas sobre inovação aberta (open innovation), os estudos sobre esse modelo de inovação nas startups ainda são incipientes, especialmente, no Brasil. Com isso, este artigo objetiva descrever e analisar os desafios da inovação aberta, em startups de base tecnológica, através dos fatores potencializadores e restritivos presentes na busca por fontes externas de conhecimento. A pesquisa qualitativa foi realizada através de método de múltiplos casos com duas startups. A análise de conteúdo foi composta por duas categorias centrais: i) Busca por Fontes Externas e ii) Motivação e Antecedentes. Os resultados indicam que o principal fator potencializador foi a universidade através da estrutura física e suporte na busca por fontes de financiamento e competências internas demandadas pelas startups. Por seu turno, os impedimentos legais e burocráticos de transferência e negociação com fontes externas, além do receio do compartilhamento de conhecimentos e experiências internas foram os principais fatores restritivos. Por fim, a pesquisa indica uma situação que não contempla plenamente o modelo teórico da inovação aberta em decorrência de especificidades das startups e de limitações estruturais, culturais e legais.

Professional paperNew product development in small manufacturing enterprises on the territory of Serbia was investigated on a representative sample of micro and small enterprises covering a broad range of businesses. It was found that market pull was the prevalent strategy for new product development, which was characterized by close collaboration with customers from the idea to the final product including the R&D activities. Besides customers, the main sources of ideas were competitors and trade fairs or exhibitions. The marketing activities associated with new product introduction were quite limited. These findings were compared with new product development practices in neighboring countries. Based on our findings we propose two measures to improve new product development in small manufacturing enterprises in Serbia: establish a closer cooperation with external knowledge centers (universities, research institutes, innovation centers) and set up innovation networks with complementary partners by actively using the open innovation concept. Keywords: idea sources; micro and small enterprises; new product development; open innovation NPD u malim proizvodnim poduzećima u SrbijiStručni članak Ispitivao se razvoj novog proizvoda (NPD -New Product Development) u malim proizvodnim poduzećima na području Srbije na reprezentativnom uzorku mikro i malih poduzeća širokog raspona poslovanja. Ustanovilo se da je pomoć tržišta prevladavajuća strategija u razvoju novog proizvoda, čije je obilježje uska suradnja s kupcima od ideje do finalnog proizvoda uključujući aktivnosti istraživanja i razvoja (R&D -research and development). Pored kupaca, glavni izvori ideja su konkurenti i sajmovi ili izložbe. Marketinške aktivnosti povezane s predstavljanjem novog proizvoda sasvim su ograničene. Te su se spoznaje usporedile s načinima razvoja novog proizvoda u susjednim zemljama. Na temelju naših spoznaja predlažemo dvije mjere za poboljšanje razvoja novog proizvoda u malim proizvodnim poduzećima u Srbiji: uspostaviti jaču suradnju s vanjskim centrima znanja (sveučilišta, istraživački instituti, centri inovacija) te izgraditi mreže inovacija s komplementarnim partnerima aktivno primjenjujući koncept otvorene inovacije. Enabled by ICTs and digital fabrication tools such as 3D printing, and facilitated by shared workspaces such as makerspaces and FabLabs, digital innovation and fabrication networks (DIFNs) are emerging globally. To open the debate on this nascent phenomenon in the global South, this paper examines the current state of knowledge and offers future research directions. Through a systematic scoping review of 70 articles, it identifies a need for more empirical and more conceptualised research, particularly on under-researched regions including Latin America, Africa and most of Asia. Three research topic areas are identified for immediate attention: the nature of production processes within DIFNs; the relationship between DIFNs and the wider innovation systems within which they sit; and the tension between the open and closed worldviews manifest in DIFNs.
