“Open rest,” a new concept in the selection of the vertical dimension of occlusion

“…For the new rehabilitation, the clinical method followed to determine the VDO and orientation of the occlusal plane used wax rims, made to average parameters and oriented parallel to the Camper plane (midpoint of the tragus – subnasal point) and the bipupillary line. They were checked from the aesthetic and phonetic standpoints (Douglas & Maritano, 1965; Javid, 1974; Palla, 1979; Spratley, 1980).
