Openwork scheduling for steep-grade iron-ore deposits with the help of near-vertical layers

Abstract: Purpose is to develop efficient scheduling to excavate steep-grade iron-ore deposits using near-vertical layers relying upon production practices by an open pit of Poltava Mining-and-Processing Integrated Works (MPIW). Methods. The goal achievement involved system analysis of openwork scheduling for steep-grade iron-ore deposits by means of near-vertical layers in an open pit of Poltava MPIW; the scheduling process was structured from the viewpoint of decision-making under uncertainty. Findings. … Show more

“…The authors have proposed selective mining of complex-structured ore deposits by a system with caving ore and overlying rocks [42][43][44][45][46][47]. The idea behind the option consists in mining the ore deposit in stages: I -extraction of ore reserves located between the hanging wall and the barren inclusion with its further drawing; II -drilling off the barren inclusion and moving it towards the hanging wall by blasting; III -breaking and drawing the remainder of ore on the footwall.…”

“…A significant task of subsoil geometrization consists in increasing efficiency of drilling and blasting as an important factor for mining enterprise performance [28][29][30][31][32]. This task, in turn, is associated with that of monitoring the state of the rock massif [33][34][35][36][37] and closely related to methods of mining processes control [38][39][40][41][42].…”

“…The iron content reaches an average of 57%. Iron ores with an average grade are mined at 2 large quarries of Ferrexpo iron ore company in the Kremenchuk iron ore region [27,28]. The Belozerskyii iron-ore region, where the PJSC Zaporizhzhia Iron Ore Plant develops rich iron ores of the Yuzhno-Belozerskyi and Pereverzivske deposits, is of significant industrial importance.…”
