Operating Temperature of Nonfullerene Acceptor‐Based Bulk Heterojunction Organic Solar Cells

Abstract: A comprehensive study of the operating temperature () of three nonfullerene (NF) acceptor‐based bulk heterojunction organic solar cells (BHJ OSCs), two conventional (OSC1 and OSC3) and one inverted (OSC2) structure, is presented. A quantitative analysis of the thermal power generated by photon absorption in transport layers and electrodes, thermalization of photoexcited charge carriers, tail‐state recombination, and resistive heating is conducted. For all three OSCs, the dependence of operating temperature on… Show more

“…Solar cells are used to convert solar energy directly into electricity; thereby, these devices can be regarded as an alternative to meet the increasing energy demand while curbing carbon emissions. [ 1 ] There are different types of solar cells, of which silicon solar cells (SSCs) [ 2 ] are commercially available at present, while others like dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), [ 3 ] intermediate‐band solar cells (IBSCs), [ 4 ] quantum dot solar cells (QDSCs), [ 5 ] organic solar cells (OSCs), [ 6 ] and perovskite solar cells (PSCs) [ 7 ] are still at the investigation stage. [ 1b,8 ] Among these solar cells, [ 2–7 ] PSCs have recently obtained intensive popularity due to their ever‐increasing power conversion efficiency (PCE), low‐cost material constituents, and simple fabrication processes.…”
