Optical Bench Analysis of 2 Depth of Focus Intraocular Lenses

Abstract: Background: The aim of the study was to analyze the objective optical properties of 2 enhanced depth of focus (EDoF) intraocular lenses (IOLs) using optical bench analysis. Methods: This experimental study investigates 2 new EDoF IOLs, the Alcon AcrySof IQ Vivity and the Bausch & Lomb LuxSmart Crystal, on the optical bench, using OptiSpheric IOL PRO2 (Trioptics, Germany) in order to assess the optical quality according to ISO 1… Show more

“…27) to stretch the wavefront, combined with a discrete change in radial curvature in the central area of about 2 mm to produce a wavefront shift. 99,100 The aspheric design of the Vivity corrects −0.20 µm of primary SA. According to the manufacturer, the Vivity has 2 transition elements in the central 2.20 mm range.…”

“…Therefore, the second transition element moves the wavefront forward, shifting the light from the hyperopic direction to the myopic direction so that the entire light energy is used. The Vivity IOL generates the extended depth of field by means of the aspherical front lens surface and a spherical rear surface 10099.…”

“…For example, no patients with successful preoperative refractive surgery were included and UDVA was at least 1.0 decimal for all patients. The combination of different ocular aberrations (i.e., due to previous myopic or hyperopic corneal ablations) with the IOL may offer significantly different outcomes [ 14 ]. At the same time, the study assessed objective VA results, but different profiles of patients could show different levels of (objective or subjective) tolerance to low refractive errors.…”

“…Horizontal coma of about We have shown that the Lentis Quantum (L-333) enhances the depth of focus seen in the MTF curves by combining spherical aberration (Z 4-0) and secondary spherical aberration (Z 6-0) of opposite sign. This approach was discussed in the literature in recent years, and is applied to other novel IOL optics like the LuxSmart IOL (Bausch&Lomb) [15][16][17][18].…”
