“…The changes on the metal/nitrogen ratio determine phase composition, crystal structure, film morphology, thermal stability, and many other structural and chemical properties affecting the final performance (optical, electrical, mechanical, oxidation resistance, etc.) [10][11][12][13]. In certain applications, a graded chemical composition (gradient or multilayer architecture) is searched deliberately in order to achieve a good adhesion on the substrate, and a progressive adaptation to the desired functionality.…”

“…Hafnium nitride (HfN) is a refractory material that has favorable properties such as high reported melting point (3300–3387 °C), , high hardness, high elastic moduli, low electrical resistivity (∼50 μΩ cm), good optical coating properties, , high solar and infrared reflectivity, and high chemical stability against corrosion. , HfN is also a superconductor with transition temperatures ( T c ) of 8.83 and 6.2 K. It has been used as a coating layer in cemented carbide cutting tools to improve their performance and life due to its high hot hardness . The favorable properties together with the bright metallic/gold color of HfN also lend it for use as coatings in turbine blades and window glasses not only as a decorating medium but also to improve product properties .…”

“…In addition, the high corrosion resistance of TiN makes it a suitable plasmonic material in extremely harsh conditions. Therefore, TiN has been a material of choice for many practical applications such as durable optical coatings, solar absorbers, solar cell contacts, and refractive index sensors . Recently, it was reported that MBE-deposited TiN exhibits a very high reflectance of more than 90% at near-infrared spectral ranges, similar to gold .…”
