Optical communication of spin information between light emitting diodes

Abstract: For the full implementation of spintronic circuits, it is necessary to transmit spin information from one device to another. Electrons in semiconductors often suffer from high spin relaxation rates, making electrical transport of spin information highly inefficient. Here, we propose optical transport of spin information as an alternative. We demonstrate that the spin information associated with electrons injected from Co2FeSi and Fe layers into the quantum wells of spin light emitting diodes (spin-LEDs) can be… Show more

“…8,9,10,11 Optical metamaterials capable of interacting with circularly polarized (CP) light, based on helical structures, are of considerable interest as CP light can be used e.g. in optical communications between spinLEDs, 12 in displays, 13 or in quantum-based optical computing. 14 So far efforts to obtain chiral nematics filled with NPs have either relied on adding hydrocarbon groupcapped NPs to a chiral nematic matrix or, alternatively, on functionalizing gold NPs with chiral groups and dispersing them in a nematic liquid crystal.…”

“…Основным направлением по созда-нию детекторов циркулярно-поляризованного излуче-ния является использование систем " ферромагнитный металл/полупроводниковая структура". Вариантами та-ких систем являются структуры металл/полупроводник с барьером Шоттки [1], металл/туннельный ди-электрический слой/полупроводник [2], металл/p−i−n-фотодиод [3,4]. В качестве ферромагнитных металлов ис-пользуются слои Fe, NiFe, Co, CoFeB, CoFeSi.…”

“…Ferromagnetic stripes or tubes with a magnetization perpendicular to the substrate surface have the potential for circular-polarized light emitting diodes that can optically transmit spin information in zero external magnetic field. [7] This could enable three-dimensional magnetic recording with unsurpassed data storage capacities. [8,9] The combination of the binary Heusler alloy Fe 3 Si (Curie temperature of about 840 K) and GaAs, has several advantages compared to most previously studied semiconductor/ferromagnet (SC/FM) core/shell NWs.…”
