Optical-fiber interferometer for velocity measurements with picosecond resolution

Abstract: The conventional Doppler laser-interference velocimeters are made up of traditional optical elements such as lenses and mirrors and will generally restrict its applications in multipoint velocity measurements. By transfering the light from multimode optical fiber to single-mode optical fiber and using the currently available conventional telecommunications elements, the authors have constructed a velocimeter called all-fiber displacement interferometer system for any reflector. The unique interferometer system… Show more

“…In the present work, the detonation reaction characteristics of seven types of CL-20-based explosives containing different amounts and particle sizes of aluminum were experimentally investigated. Because of the short reaction times, an all-fiber "displacement interferometer system for any reflector" (DISAR) [9], with time resolution less than 5 ns, was employed to measure the explosive/window interfacial particle velocity. A new two-function fitting analysis was used to determine the CJ points on the interfacial velocity curves.…”

“…In the experiment, a GDI was accelerated to 4,711 m/s. The particle velocity profile was measured using a picoseconds time-resolved DPS diagnostic system [13]. A *1-lm-thick stainless steel film was deposited at the LiF front surface to enhance reflected signal of the DPS system.…”

“…The product of metallic foil electrical explosion drives the Mylar flyer which is cut by the PMMA barrel to circular plate to high speed and then, the flyer impacts target sample. The rear surface velocity of sample was recorded by DPS (Doppler Pins System), 12 and impact experiments conditions are listed in table I. Although flyer diameter is less than samples', the diameter of impact area is sufficient to ensure one dimensional strain state within the observation time.…”
