“…Moreover, the comparison with other crystalline and glass matrices indicates that the X 2 JO parameter is one of the higher among the presented matrices with except of the CdS nanoparticles in sol-gel glasses [18]. The similar behavior is observed for the X 4 and X 6 JO parameters, however for the case of GeO 2 -PbO-PbF 2 oxyfluoride glass [15], MgTP glass [17] and Li 2 O-Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 -SiO 2 glasses [19]. However, generally the efficient JO parameters are indicating a promising use of such materials in different fluorescent optoelectronic devices.…”

“…Many fluorescent transitions of rare earth ions of practical importance are initiated from an excited level with a small energy gap; materials with lower phonon energy are often required as a luminescent host to suppress the non-radiative loss and to obtain higher quantum efficiency of the desired fluorescence. Most oxide glasses have large phonon energy (1100 cm À 1 ) due to the stretching vibration of network-forming oxides [2]. It is found that germanate glasses, presumably due to the large mass of Ge, have smaller maximum vibrational frequencies than those shown by silicate, phosphate and borate glasses.…”

“…In the case of Pr 3+ doped glasses due to a strong mixture between the 4f 2 and 4f 5d states the second order intensity parameter ˝2 [34][35][36][37] is likely that negative. To overcome this drawback, the modified JO theory [38,39] has been used:…”
