Abstract:A new method of direct modulating a pre-amplifier laser diode as an optical switch is proposed. To modulate the laser diode with lower repetition rate, the repetition rate in the kilohertz region can be achieved using a source laser of 100 MHz without electro-optical modulators (EOM) or acousto-optical modulators (AOM). Using a direct modulated laser diode, an ON/OFF ratio (extinction ratio) of 25 dB was demonstrated in this study.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
