Optically Anisotropic Topical Hemostatic Coacervate for Naked‐Eye Identification of Blood Coagulation

Abstract: Bleeding control is critical for improving survival rates in clinical and military environments. Despite considerable efforts to develop hemostatic agents useful in open surgery, there has been little focus on effective topical hemostatic formulations capable of clearly identifying internal hemostasis and/or rehemorrhage processes without any optical labeling, particularly in minimally invasive endoscopic interventions. Herein, an optically anisotropic topical hemostatic agent for naked‐eye clarification of bl… Show more

“…As a result, ~90% of the cells were alive upon treatment of the sample below 1 mg/mL. Furthermore, the concentration of TA included in the CAC Au ink was 250 mg/mL, which is less than the TA concentration previously used in the fabrication of tissue adhesive materials implantable in vivo [ 49 , 50 ]. That is, the inks might not cause severe toxicity and skin irritation after direct on-tissue printing.…”

“…In the proposed hemostatic scheme for GTP3 coacervates (Figure H), it is critical to introduce interconnected micropores to facilitate the perfusion of blood into the interior of hemostats so that the accelerated interaction with blood components could induce rapid coagulation. It should be noted that TA was reported with hemostatic capabilities by interacting with blood cells and fibrinogen . The physical interactions between TA and blood proteins were reported to result in rapid aggregation of blood components to trigger the coagulation cascades .…”

“…The color of the samples becomes darker (green) visually as the glucose concentration goes up (Figure 3C). 55 According to the smart phone data, a good linear correlation (R 2 = 0.9689) between the green value and blood glucose concentration is observed (Figure 3D), indicating that the TMB/Fe 2+ /PF127/GOx hydrogel possessed a potential sensing capacity for local blood glucose in diabetic wounds.…”
