Optimal configuration and sizing of regional energy service company's energy hub with integrated demand response

Abstract: The growing development of interactive energy systems has motivated a regional energy service company (ESCO) to build energy hubs (EH) that play a substantial role in the coupling of various energy carriers. EH configuration optimization is critical to the economic operation of an ESCO. Therefore, this study proposes a configuration and sizing model that considers the integrated demand response (IDR) to optimize the size of the infrastructures in an EH, and hence minimize the total cost. The EH, which is compo… Show more

“…The set of works considering power, heat, gas and cooling follows the same approach as the previous group, but in these ones, the MES model considers the presence of cooling systems, some examples are the works presented in [8,66,78]. A long-term configuration and sizing model is developed in [8] with an integrated DR to investigate the optimal capacity of assets for an energy service company who operates energy hubs. The authors apply the concept of DR to both heating and cooling loads.…”

“…The results declare that PV curtailment consideration in the objective function has a significant impact on PV penetration within residential communities. The paper in [32] determines the long‐term configuration and sizing of a multi‐energy system incorporating an integrated DRP. This work employs various DR strategies, including transferable, shiftable, and curtailable approaches applied to cooling, heating, and electrical demands to improve the system's investment economy and operational flexibility.…”

“…However, in reality, with the help of advanced information and communication technology, system operators can guide users to actively adjust their energy consumption and participate in demand response (DR) to significantly improve the EH operations and the utilization efficiency of RES [14]. In view of this, [15] analyzed the contribution of implementing a comprehensive energy demand response to improve the investment economy and operational flexibility of EH based on the cooling and heating load. [16] revealed the impact of DR on the system investment income by establishing an EH sustainable planning model.…”
