Optimal reconstruction of historical water supply to a distribution system: A. Methodology

Abstract: The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS), with support from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) conducted an epidemiological study of childhood leukaemia and nervous system cancers that occurred in the period 1979 through 1996 in Dover Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. The epidemiological study explored a wide variety of possible risk factors, including environmental exposures. ATSDR and NJDHSS determined that completed human exposure pathways to groundwater c… Show more

“…In this study, the proposed methodology was applied to the water distribution system serving the Dover Township area in New Jersey (Figure 3), which can represent a typical small town in the United states of America (USA). This water distribution system was selected to test the proposed approach since it is extensively studied and well documented [23][24][25][26]. This water supply network is composed of 16,048 pipes connecting 14,945 junctions.…”

“…Children from the Marines have also shown signs of brain cancer and leukemia. Data collected as part of field studies was used to calibrate a hydraulic and water quality model, based on EPANET, of the Camp Lejeune distribution system (Maslia et al ; Aral , ) to assess this problem.…”
