Optimal Sizing and Assessment of a Renewable Rich Standalone Hybrid Microgrid Considering Conventional Dispatch Methodologies

Abstract: This paper presents an evaluation of the optimized design of an off-grid hybrid microgrid for alternative load dispatch algorithms with the determination of the most optimal sizing of each equipment, analyzing the voltage and frequency outputs and various costs of the proposed microgrids. Kushighat and Rajendro Bazar, two geographical locations in Bangladesh have been taken as test sites. The proposed microgrids incorporating diesel generator, renewable resources, storage device, and 23.31 kW of demand have be… Show more

“…The results show that this method is applicable to any location with the same demand characteristics and meteorological condition. 11 At present, the droop control method is widely used in hybrid microgrid interface converter, but this method lacks inertial characteristics and cannot keep the model running smoothly. VSG control method can simulate the rotor inertia characteristics of VSG through the control strategy of the interface converter.…”

“…The stable frequency response of a microgrid is one of the core requirements for system stability. A frequency deviation within the limit of ±2% Hz of the rated frequency is tolerable [45]. Otherwise, the design needs to be calibrated to provide the frequency deviation within the tolerable limit.…”

“…Renewable sources can be successfully implemented for the generation of electrical power [2]. Conventional renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydro are successfully being implemented all over the world to provide a sustainable solution to the energy problem [3]. The main problem regarding renewable source-based power system networks is its uncertain nature.…”

“…To feed all these loads, the grid faces some challenges like stability issues [7] and energy management issues which has a significant impact on the power quality within the microgrid. The dispatch strategy-based control algorithm in this regard might help the grid to mitigate this issue [3].…”
