Optimization and kinetic study on the synthesis of palm oil ester using Lipozyme TL IM

Abstract: a b s t r a c tEnzymatic synthesis of palm oil esters (POE) was carried out via alcoholysis of palm oil (PO) and oleyl alcohol (OA) catalyzed by Lipozyme TL IM. The optimum reaction conditions were: temperature: 60 • C; enzyme load: 24.7 wt%; substrate ratio: 1:3 (PO/OA), impeller speed: 275 rpm and reaction time: 3 h. At the optimum condition, the conversion of POE was 79.54%. Reusability study showed that Lipozyme TL IM could be used for 5 cycles with conversion above 50%. The alcoholysis reaction kinetic fo… Show more

“…While the water activity was essentially the same for both catalysts (0.28 and 0.34), the reaction rate was characterized by the amounts of reacted stearate, 12.9% and 4.6%, respectively. The reaction rate thus fell by a factor of 2.8 for the "dry" enzyme [35].…”

“…The authors [18][19][20][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36] investigated and analyzed the role of water contained both inside the biocatalysts and in the organic solvents and the gas phase. They showed that in order to achieve high activity and stability of whole cell biocat alysts, the internal water content must be optimal (5-15%); the biocatalysts in this case function as effec tively as those prepared on the basis of the extracellular (soluble) lipases.…”
