Optimization for a Flexure Hinge Using an Effective Hybrid Approach of Fuzzy Logic and Moth-Flame Optimization Algorithm

Abstract: Flexure hinge is a critical element in a positioner of a nanoindentation tester. To effectively work, a suitable flexure hinge should simultaneously meet multiple objectives, including rotation axis shift, safety factor, and angular deflection. The main aim of this article was to illustrate a hybrid method of the Taguchi method, fuzzy logic, response surface method, and Moth-flame optimization algorithm to solve the design optimization of a flexure hinge in order to enhance the three quality characteristics of… Show more

“…The entire dimension of the stage is approximately 328 mm × 328 mm × 10 mm. In this research, elliptical hinges are proposed to integrate into XY stage because its benefits (e.g., minimal rotation axis shift, good safety factor, and large angular deflection) [ 40 ]. Besides, the zigzag-based flexure hinges and leaf hinges are developed and integrated in the stage in order to reduce parasitic motion and obtain more large displacement.…”

“…In this study, the certain angle to the transverse and axial directions in the lever-type compliant amplifers are aimed to reduce the mass of the amplifer, i.e., decreasing in unessential cross section of lever amplifer but still ensure a large amplifcation ratio. [40]. Besides, the zigzag-based fexure hinges and leaf hinges are developed and integrated in the stage in order to reduce parasitic motion and obtain more large displacement.…”

“…In addition, the algorithm is enhanced by the addition of a flame generation strategy and death mechanism. Dang et al [107] brought up a hybridization of MFO and three different methods, including the Taguchi method, fuzzy logic, and response surface method, to solve the flexure hinge design problem. SMFO has been recently proposed by [97] to enhance the solution quality and convergence speed of the MFO by introducing the sine cosine strategy to the MFO algorithm.…”

“…Chen et al [ 96 ] introduced SMFO to improve the exploration capability of MFO by integrating it with the sine cosine strategy. An enhanced MFO algorithm was proposed by MP Dang et al [ 113 ] which is a hybridization of MFO and three different methods to solve the design problem of a flexure hinge. Mittal [ 114 ] brought up an enhanced moth-flame optimization by integrating MFO and variable neighborhood search to boost search capabilities and convergence accuracy of the canonical MFO.…”
