Optimization of a cycle time and utilization in semiconductor test manufacturing using simulation based, on-line, near-real-time scheduling system

Abstract: A discrete event simulation based "on-line near-real-time" dynamic scheduling and optimization system has been conceptualized, designed, and developed to optimize cycle time and asset utilization in the complex manufacturing environment of semiconductor test manufacturing. Our approach includes the application of rules and optimization algorithm, using multiple variables as an integral part of discrete event simulation of the manufacturing operation and auto simulation model generation at a desired frequency. … Show more

“…Cycle-time prediction is also related to job scheduling (Sivakumar, 1999;Tsai & Chen, 2013), due-date assignment (Joseph & Sridharan, 2011;Mor et al, 2013), and avail-to-promise (ATP) calculation (Oracle, 2014). With the improvement of prediction accuracy in cycle times, the obstacle of determining the range of a cycle time gradually emerges.…”

“…The architecture for a generic data driven simulator [13] utilises a simulation model that deploys data from a neutral shop data file. Sivakumar [14] connects ERP/MES data to optimise scheduling integrating the shop-floor data, and allowing the user to enter manually non-system data. Fraunhofer IPA developed a method for web-based configuration and simulation of production systems [15] concerning only the conceptual phase of new production systems.…”

“…During the last 30 years, the performance of a large number of the priority dispatch rules has been studied extensively using simulation techniques (Jones and Fabelo 1998). Some complex dispatching rules comprise multiple levels of heuristics or priorities, with look ahead capability (Sivakumar 1999;Chong, Sivakumar, and Gay 2002).…”

“…In this paper, we described a two-pass bottleneck scheduling approach on our earlier work of simulationbased scheduling projects (Sivakumar 1999;Chong, Sivakumar, and Gay 2002). The project was carried out for a test site of a semiconductor manufacturer.…”
